The Husqvarna 327PT5S is our most recommended commercial grade gas powered pole pruner – very powerful, starts easily and has a long reach. On the other hand, the price tag is higher of course.

Handling and reach

The 327PT5S is a classical heavy-duty gas pole chain saw and has all the associated advantages and disadvantages – it’s powerful, has a long reach and you are not limited by a power cord or battery running time. On the other hand, it requires mixing the gas-oil fuel, a little maintenance and it’s more expensive, louder and heavier than electric units.

The assembly is quick and easy, it’s well built and feels solid. The pole itself is telescopic (very easy to adjust) and offers a maximum length of 13 feet, so the total reach would be around 16′ which is really good for a gas pole saw. Like all other pole pruners, it feels a bit awkward at full extension, but most of the time you’ll probably work at shorter lengths where it is easier to control and less fatiguing.

On the other hand, the long pole and robust design makes is quite heavy – fortunately, it’s also well balanced and the included harness helps as well, taking most of the load. It doesn’t vibrate much, only it’s quite loud so we would recommend using some ear protection.

Power

As a professional unit, it offers plenty of power – it cuts 6" branches like butter and have no problems even with 10" thick ones, only it takes a bit longer. Also very easy to start, mostly on first or second pull when cold and even easier when hot.

The oiler is automatic and also adjustable so you can set the amount of oil going on the chain just as you like – a nice plus. Just remember it comes with a 1/4" chain, not the standard 3/8" – so the replacement would be this one.

Conclusion:  If you need a high quality professional pole saw for a larger yard with a lot of trees, the Husqvarna 327PT5S is the right choice for you – powerful, starts without any problems and offers a long reach. We can definitely recommend it.

On the other, it isn’t cheap, so you if plan to use it only occasionally (and don’t need such a long reach), take a look at the cheaper Husqvarna128LDX..

Frequently asked questions:

What kind of fuel is required?

The machine is 2-cycle so a mix of gas and oil (50:1) is required. We recommend using a non-ethanol blended, high octane gas and for example the Husqvarna oil.

Or to make things easier, you can get a premixed fuel.

Are there any accessories I should buy?

We recommend getting the Husqvarna oil for the fuel mix (or the premixed fuel if you don’t want to do it yourself), bar and chain oil for chain lubrication and probably also a spare chain.

Plus a proper head & ears protection

Is there any maintenance needed?
